It is believed that the monks of Furness Abbey bought the land and built the first Abbot Hall around 1160.The present building was constructed in 1840, since when Abbot Hall has been a family mansion, a school, and a Christian Guild hotel since 1916.Overlooking Morecambe Bay, Abbot Hall is set in extensive grounds which include a 15 metre heated indoor swimming pool and five self-catering pine lodges and a cottage within the grounds, some with views accommodating up to 26 guests. Abbot Hall is owned by Christian GuildSituated on the edge of the hamlet of Kents Bank, near to the Victorian resort of Grange-over-Sands, Abbot Hall is readily accessible by road or by rail. It is an ideal centre for exploring the beautiful Lake District, and is only 20 minutes drive from Newby Bridge at the foot of Lake Windermere.Abbot Hall Hotel is part of the Christian Guild Group of Hotels. Guests are free to take part in as much or as little of the daily activies as they wish.

Directions

By Road:Leave the M6 motorway at junction 36 and follow the dual carriageway towards Kendal. Take the first exit, signposted Barrow A590.Follow this road to Lindale Roundabout and then follow the signs to Grange-over-Sands. Once in Grange drive through the town. Keeping left at both mini roundabouts, continue along the road keeping the bay on the left hand side.As you leave Grange you will climb a hill; at the top, ignore the first sign on left-hand side for Kents Bank Station. Take the next left, Kirkhead Road.Abbot Hall Hotel is situated at the bottom of the hill, on the right, opposite the Post Office.By Train:Trains run to Kents Bank Station. This is situated at the end of our drive.Kents Bank is on the Lancaster Barrow-in-Furness Line. Trains also run to Grange-over-Sands from Preston, Manchester and Carlisle.It is a 10 minute taxi journey to the hotel from Grange-over-Sands Station.
